DOE Gasoline Demand Looking Very Flatish

Posted by WARREN MOSLER on January 10th, 2011

Nothing here to support price hikes if price was from demand,
and not being set by a foreign monopolist as necessarily is the case today.

Was just at the largest RV show in the nation, and they have RV’s that are as big as a don trump skyscraper on wheels. I asked all the salesmen, why so big and bigger? They say people get tired of being cramped and need more space. I say how can they afford it? Where is the electric or solar or nukular powered RV, they look at me like I am nutzo. PS, it was all old white men and women, no equal opportunity up in there, I said where is all the black and brown RV’ers and they just frowned.

Warren, you say your predictions were wrong a few years ago because you didn’t expect the fed/congress response to lehman etc to be so pathetic. You say this too in another thread about the workers losing protections: “But in any case the fault for the outcome goes to Congress for not coming up with the right policy response with regard to domestic demand management”

So it seems Warren a big macro theme with you is that congress is FAILING the people, it fails them in all kinds of policy responses and issues. So we can agree congress is a bunch of fugups. Yet I have NEVER heard you ONE TIME mention arnold klings 250 states proposal that CONGRESS will continue to be a bunch of fugups because there are too few of them, and therefore they are TOO EASILY corrupted, (I am sure tom hickey can get on board on this meme) and until we disperse the POWER of the rich corrupt capitalists to corrupt so few congressmen, nada gonna change and public purpose will deteriorate more and more. SO what is wrong with arnold klings 250 states proposal that we need to greatly expand the members of congress so that it is MUCH HARDER and too costly to corrupt them? Jesus tells me in my dreams at night why are you pennywise and poundfoolish, why do you keep pumping time, money, and energy into an MMT meme, when that has to be AFTER you change CONGRESS, not before? Why aren’t you pumping more time and money and effort into the 250 states meme and then after that go for the MMT meme? Congress by your own admission is where a lot of fugups are. Why do people think getting 5000 congresspeople to represent us is a futile effort but wasting time on MMT is deserving? I would like to have a congressperson who has fewer constituents and has time to talk to me personally, unlike the congressmen we have now.

Why don’t we just go to direct democracy. “They” can’t buy out everyone, can they? Oh, wait a minute, maybe they can.

Well warren is censoring me again and removed a lot of posts – perhaps justified by what he thinks, but people here criticize brad delong for doing the same thing at his blog, don’t be hypocrites people.

Tom Hickey, to answer your question as I see it, it is not practical for every human being in the USA to vote on every issue. In a perfect world we would all have the time to sit and read 40 hours a day like you do Tom and learn all about history and technology and so-crates, but I have to pick strawberries and don’t have the time you do to whittle away Tom so that I can be educated on all the issues. I really don’t have time to come here for FREE with all the responsibilities and bills I have in the real world and have come here much less and ultimately will probably stop coming here at all (I know some cheer for this day that I will be silenced – you will soon be rewarded).

We have bills that nancy pelosi said we have to pass to know what is in them and lots of legislation that the lawmakers only have hours to read before it is voted on, that is damn silly if you ask me. How are 300 million americans gonna have the time to read and understand bills (and they aren’t trained lawyers) that senators don’t have time to read?

Tom most of my mates don’t know anything about roman coins in britain, or socrates, or anything at all really about government or money. I already told you I have relatives that legally got married at 14, but if they go to honduras and have sex with an 18 year old they are now international sex crime felons, etc etc – they are just too many damn rules, who on this board knows the whole tax code? Who on this board knows every rule in the bible? See Tom Hickey, its just too damn much, human beings evolved to exist in small usufruct societies and this megacity world is not our natural environment and creates too many problems.

This society has raced so fast to get somewhere, the people have not been able to get educated and wise and therefore are easily hoodwinked. This is why warren advocating MORE GROWTH is EVIL, people are already too stupid, more and faster growth will just breed more stupidity, the treadmill they got me running on is too fast now.

I like what you say though Tom about direct democracy, I would like a society that is slower, allowing for more time for the citizens to get educated and wise so they can monitor their government and money and such more closely.

In my grandpa’s day tom he made enough to not have his wife work and spend lots of time with his kids, but today I see both parents working and the kids are very neglected, but here is Warren and crew – we need MORE GROWTH – faster GDP growth – etc etc

Our standard of living has went way way down in many ways that is not measured, and more growth is taking us faster into the abyss.

If you look at mother nature Tom, the way bees find new beehives, it is not a direct democratic system either, but that is an efficient system for getting relevant information up to the queen bee for moving the herd.

Look at the youtube videos of “century of self” how easily the masses can be hoodwinked with propoganda.

Athens was a direct democracy right? They voted to kill So-crates, I would like to think if they had a good representative government made up of folks like you and warren that so-crates would have lived. I think most policy makers when they are young and idealistic are good people, but the “system” corrupts them and turns them into scumbags, it doesn’t matter who is voted into office at this point, a new president or new congressmen won’t fix the issues, but changing the government fundamentally the way arnold kling suggests seems to be a step in the right direction, direct democracy like you want would be best, but really Tom who has the time to read 50,000 pages of tax code and ordinance law and sex crimes law and motor vehicle law etc etc and vote on it, that is just not realistic.

Personally I think you should watch that movie with rock hudson – the Martian Chronicles, that is where humanity is going, too damn much growth and stress and it is all going to implode.

Straw, I admit that direct democracy would result in some poor choice, at least initially, until people woke up and realized that it’s the stupidity. Then, maybe they would wise up. If not, we can just cross democracy off the list of viable options for governance, I guess.

But now we have a system that is run by a ruling elite that presents us with two choices that are going to do essentially the same thing anyway, that is, support the ruling elite. Historically, ruling elites have always pushed things too far eventually and ended up losing their heads. This one will, too.
