Warren,

I wish success at your conference! You should do one in Europe!
How to convince a society "captured" by speculators, rating agencies, media, conservative politicians and the validating economists? Unfortunately, only a crisis can do this that will enable a "revolt" in thinking, political forces and policy implementation! Their response to save the "system" with huge bail out funds has only damaged their ability to respond when the contradictions will re-emerge.They are creating the seeds of their own destruction!

As the child of a municipal firefighter my sense is that the 100k figure includes overtime pay, or represents the salary of upper management with 20-30 years of seniority, or correlates to the high cost of living in certain mega cities. Whether 100k is excessive for a police captain in San Francisco I leave to others to judge (an example pulled out of my... hat). But I expect the somewhat disturbing levels of blog hatred directed at municipal workers relates more to the complete lack of equivalent well-paying jobs in the private sector. Who in the private sector can expect 20-30 years' uninterrupted employment plus a full pension including health care benefits? Absolutely no one.

"Bloggers are calling for blowing up the cops and firemen and trash workers in seattle who make over 100K a year."

I hope this is yet another lie from the far right, because 100K does seem like it's overblown for a cop or a fireman. You can't simply dismiss the criticism on the grounds that they are "human beings too".

One has to set his priorities right : employment comes first, at a decent wage, not at a non-sustainable wage.

Great piece selise.

I understand that for Warren's full employment plan to work as an automatic stabilizer, the wages paid by the Government need to be below what the private sector would pay. However, I think it may be time to raise the minimum wage above current levels, so my own preference is for $10 or $12 per hour under the Government plan. I wonder whether there's enough slack in the economy to absorb that kind of upward push without inflation?

Warren, your appearance on CNBC may have had a beneficial effect on their reporting. Rick Santelli today pointed out that the U. S. could "print money till the cows come home." :)

"We need to learn to speak to them and persuade the entrepreneurs, the unionists, the teachers, the housewives, the priests, the cab drivers, etc."

The unions, the teachers, I see a lot of anomosity against them out there in the blogosphere. The unions and thier pensions have been blamed for everything from the bankrupting of our municipalities to the offshoring of all our work to the technological downfall from our factories to the educations in our schools as it all goes to asia.

In california the Governator is blowing them up, nationally GM got blowed up. Bloggers are calling for blowing up the cops and firemen and trash workers in seattle who make over 100K a year.

As for the housewives, I am all for this group of people - they don't get enough respect or compensation. We need to adopt warrens plan of 8 per hour for any domestic god or goddess who cleans the dishes and the laundry and takes care of baby.
